Department of Diagnostic Ophthalmology
Diagnostic Ophthalmology is a feather in the cap of COAVS. It is equipped with most modern and state of art equipments. Diagnostic covers screening and monitoring of glaucoma, support in diseases of cornea, retina and cataract. It is also the biggest referral centre with reliable and dependable reporting. This department enjoys its reputation in this region. The department is also responsible for teaching and training of under-graduate and post graduate Investigative Oculist students. A well trained and clinically skilled person are available here for their consultant opinion.
Facilities present at the Diagnostic Department COAVS:
- Ocular ultrasound (B-scan, UBM, A-scan and pachymetry) is the most attended and heavily loaded segment in diagnostic side.
- To measure the exact power of IOL, Ultrasound and optical (LENSTAR) Biometry facility is available Ultrasound based pachymetry is used for corneal thickness for exact measurement of intraocular pressure in diagnoses of glaucoma and management of keratoconus.
- To detect very early glaucoma damage in the eye we offer visual field assessment (perimetry) with Humphrey Static Threshold perimeter with SITA standard and SITA fast strategies and SWAP and Med Mont Static threshold perimeter.
- HRT III (Heidelberg Retinal Tomography) and OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) are present to monitor any changes in optic nerve head contours.
- Topcon state of an art digital fundus camera is available for routine retinal imaging and for handling the load of Fundus Fluorescein Angiography (FA).
- OCT is being used for proper diagnoses of retinal pathologies especially diabetic retinopathy, macular diseases and glaucoma management.
- Visual system electroretinography test
- Spectral microscope in Corneal Bank is used to measure the population density of endothelial cells.
- Argon Laser for diabetic retinopathy
- YAG Laser is available for posterior capsular opacity after cataract surgery.
