Vitreoretina Department
The Vitreoretinal department provides care for all retina related complications. The retina is the innermost light-sensitive layer of tissue of the eye. The retina is where a two-dimensional image of the world as we see it is formed, which is then converted to electrical signals for the brain to create visual perception. A non-exhaustive list includes treatment for retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal vascular disease, macular hole, epiretinal membrane, uveitis/inflammatory eye disease, posterior segment trauma and inherited retinal degenerations.
SERVICES:
- Medical treatment: Diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of all retina related disorders. When indicated, we use Anti-VEGF or suprachoroidal injections
- Surgical treatment: If needed, we are adept at surgical intervention including pars plana vitrectomy, scleral buckling, pneumatic retinopexy, and ILM peel to name a few
- Retinal laser treatment: Some conditions are amenable to treatment via lasers. We are fully equipped with the latest lasers for retinal use
MISSION STATEMENT:
We provide optimal, timely and effective care for any and all retina related complications. We do so by focusing on the individual needs of our patients, by following scientifically sound protocols and by training the next generation of retina care specialists.
TEACHING:
The vitreoretinal department offers a two-year training program that fulfills the residency requirements of both the 2nd Fellowship in Vitreoretina offered by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan and the MS Program of King Edward Medical University.
Teaching comprises bedside teaching as well as surgical skill training. In addition, there are regular seminars and lectures. We also feature a vibrant journal club that offers an exclusive learning opportunity.
