Paediatric Ophthalmology Department
The department deals with early diagnosis, prevention and treatment of the diseases that affect children’s eye and vision less than 12 year of age. The department has three major sections namely Paediatric Ophthalmology, Paediatric Optometry and Paediatric Orthoptics. Refractions, therapies, parental counselling, medical treatment and surgical management for eye diseases like squint, ROP, Retinoblastoma etc in children are done by team of Paediatric ophthalmic consultants, Ophthalmic nurses and allied vision personnel. The department is the first in the country to conduct the sub-speciality training in Paediatric ophthalmology working since 2010.
The paediatric ophthalmology department provides teaching programs for medical graduates, postgraduates (level III) and fellows of 2nd fellowship Program (level IV) offered by the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) and the MS program of King Edward Medical University (KEMU). This department also provides training hub for ophthalmic technicians, students of BSc Optometry, and post-graduate residents in M Phil in Optometry & M Phil Orthoptics programmes.
Teaching comprises bedside teaching, OPD screening and management, laser treatment, as well as all sort of surgical skill training.

Paediatric ophthalmology department has regular Opd clinics as well as:
1)- Specialized Clinics:
- Retinopathy of prematurity (Tuesday and Friday) (ROP)
- Orthoptics clinic (6 days a week)
- Paediatric optometric clinic (6 days a week)
2)- Medical Treatment:
We aim at the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation in patients having disease of eyeball and orbit such as:
- Retinopathy of prematurity clinic (every Tuesday and Friday)
- Retinoblastoma
- Refractive errors
- Orthoptics assessment and treatment
- Amblyopia therapy
- Cataract
- Infantile and juvenile glaucoma
- Vitamin A deficiency
- Retinal dystrophies
- Genetic and metabolic disorders related to eye.
- Problems of lacrimal drainage system.
- Medical problems related to lids, eyeball and orbit.
- Low vision aid.
3)- Laser Treatment For:
- ROP
- Retinoblastoma
- YAG-Laser capsulotomy and iridotomy.
- Glaucoma
- Retinal Telangactasias and retinopathies.
4)- Surgical Treatment:
Surgical treatment for various diseases are also provided with one of the best expertise. Common surgical procedures include:
- Cataract surgery with IOL implantation.
- Glaucoma surgery with glaucoma valves implantation.
- Squint surgery
- Various eye tumors such as Retinoblastoma treatment
- Nasolacrimal stenting and surgery of Nasolacrimal passages.
- Ocular Trauma
- ROP
5)- Outreach Programs for prevention of blindness: such as awareness and screening of ROP.
