Launching of Primary eye care project

This is a joint project with the collaboration of National Programme for Prevention & Control of Blindness in Pakistan, National HMIS Programme, & the National Programme for PHC & Family Planning. The main objectives of the project are: To build a sustainable training programme to deliver preventive eye care at the community level. To strengthen the project’s management and accountability including feedback, supervision, monitoring, and evaluation. Launching Ceremony of this project was done under the aegis of College of Ophthalmology & Allied Vision Sciences (COAVS), Sightsavers International (UK) & The Jang Group of Newspapers on 27 December 2007 at Pearl Continental Hotel Lahore.

The Honorable Governor of Punjab was the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries who attended the launching ceremony included Minister for Health Punjab, Secretary Health, Special Secretary Health, Vice Chancellor KEMU, National Coordinator National Programme for Family Planning & PHC, National Coordinator HMIS, Project Director National Programme for Prevention & Control of Blindness in Pakistan, Prof. Raja Mumtaz (Patron Ophthalmic Society of Pakistan) & Prof. Saleh Memon. The ceremony was also attended by Provincial & District Coordinators, District Ophthalmologists, Executive District Officers (Health), Lady Health Workers & Lady Health Supervisors.
